The Velez play
I spoke at length with a couple of Giants people this morning about Eugenio Velez's play in Friday night's game, the one in which he failed to get the out at the plate when the go-ahead run scored.

Vizquel returns Saturday
Omar Vizquel is set to be activated to play on Saturday. The corresponding roster move isn't certain, but it seems likely that Ray Durham will be placed on the disabled list.

He pitched six scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking none. He gave up three hits. He threw 69 pitches, 53 strikes.

He's looking good so far. He has thrown 20 pitches, 15 strikes, and faced the minimum six batters.

They have the Beer Batter here!
It's a California League tradition. If the pre-designated opposing hitter strikes out, beer is $2 for the next 10 minutes. It's always amusing to watch people get up from their seats to get a head start toward the concession stand when there are two strikes on the beer batter.

Battle of the Rebuilders
The A's and Orioles were both supposed to be rebuilding this year. Both teams traded away arguably their best pitcher and best position player for a boatload of prospects. The A's dumped Dan Haren and Nick Swisher, while the Orioles traded Erik Bedard and Miguel Tejada.
